I doubt that she remembers but the first time we met (3 yrs ago, maybe?) I had just acquired my DSLR camera. Liz is a professional photographer and upon observing my then brand new camera, she started talking shop with me. A hazard of owning a DSLR is that people often assume you are a professional. I quickly set her straight on that score and offered up proof my camera was always set to Auto.
Indeed, the only reason I had purchased a DSLR was because I was tired of blurred images and missed moments of my first son who was a baby at the time. The point and shoot just wasn't cutting it. It was too slow.
Liz took a look at some of my pictures and pronounced that I had an eye and I should take up photography. She shared some tips with me and we chatted a bit about her journey to become a photographer.
Looking back on some of my pictures from that time I'm thinking that Liz was either being very charitable or she is a visionary. Those were some 'baaaaaaad' and I don't mean bad in a good way pictures.
Here we are a few years later. I literally caught Liz on the way out. No time to chat but she still managed to pose for me even as her husband was calling out to her that it was time to leave. Thanks Liz for the little nudge in the right direction and you will be happy to know that now I very rarely venture out of manual mode. BTW that still doesn't mean that I have much of a clue about what I'm doing but I'm having gobs of fun learning. Click here to see some of Liz's work
What a lovely lady. I'm off to check out her website now.
